The Bal Sangopan Yojana is a foster care scheme for young children that arose in the absence of any particular foster care scheme in the country. There are various foster care units in India however without a proper structure in place to carry out its activities; they end up providing really substandard levels of care.
Keeping that in mind, the government of India initiated the Bal Sangopan Yojana which is a government scheme that’s one of its kind.
FSC is a pioneer organization to initiate the foster care scheme under Central Social Welfare Board in 1964. In 1994, the Government of Maharashtra took over the scheme from the Centre and renamed it Bal SangopanYojana (BSY). It is now a State Government-run programme which provides alternate family care to children in difficult circumstances, wherein their biological parents are not able to care for them due to crisis situations; thereby preventing institutionalization.

- या उपक्रमातंर्गत ज्या मुलांचे पालक अनेक कारणांमुळे जसे की विकार( दिर्घकालीन आजार), मृत्यू, विभक्त होणे, किंवा एका पालकाने सोडून जाणे किंवा अन्य काही आपत्तीमुळे त्यांची काळजी घेण्यास असमर्थ असतात त्यांना तात्पुरते दुसरे कुंटुंब उपलब्ध करून दिले जाते.
- कुंटुंबाकडून काळजी घेतली जाणे हा प्रत्येक बालकाचा अधिकार असतो म्हणून जोपासना (फ़ॉस्टर) कार्यक्रमातंर्गत मुलाला थोड्या कालावधीसाठी किंवा दिर्घकालावधीसाठी कुंटुंब उपलब्ध करून दिले जाते.
- जोपासना करणाऱ्या पालकांना शासनातर्फे प्रत्येक मुलासाठी त्यांच्या मुलभूत गरजांकरिता ४२५ रुपये मासिक अनुदान सेवाभावी संस्थेमार्फत देण्यात येते. अमंलबजावणी करणाऱ्या सेवाभावी संस्थेला त्या कुंटुंबाला भेटी देणे आणि इतर प्रशासकीय कामाकरिता प्रत्येक मुलासाठी ७५ रुपये मासिक अनुदान देण्यात येते.
Child Eligibility Criteria
- Under “Bal Sangopan Yojana” Orphans or children whose parents cannot be traced, and who cannot be adopted.
- Children with a single parent and in a family crisis, death, divorce, separation, abandonment, unmarried motherhood, serious illness, parental hospitalization, etc.
- Children from disintegrated and single-parent families.
- children from leprosy and life imprisonment, HIV / AIDS, children with severe mental retardation / multiple disability, children with both parents with disabilities.
- Children in crises, severe parental discord, gross neglect, court or police complaints.
- Out-of-school child laborers (released and certified by the Department of Labor).

- Visit the Official Website of Bal Sangopan Yojana i.e. womenchild.maharashtra.gov.in.
- On the Homepage, Click on the Option “Apply Online” button.
- Application Form page will be displayed on the screen.
- Now enter the required details (Mention all the details such as child name, mother name, date of birth, gender and other information) and upload documents.
- Click on Submit Button for the final submission of the application.
