Hey guys, today we are here and we are very delighted about this scheme, which is launched by our central government. The name of this scheme is Garima Greh Scheme. Which is basically a home shelter scheme launched for the transgender community of the country. Indian Constitution provides gender equality for every citizen of the country.
Gender equality is also our fundamental right. And Indian Constitution prohibits discrimination about sex and gender. Article 14 also describes the equality of gender and equal protection that will be provided to all the citizens. Garima Greh Scheme

The main cause of the need for Garima Greh was to protect the rights of transgender and to provide shelter to these communities. In section 8(4) of the TG Act 2019, this is clearly mentioned that government will take every step to protect and rescue the transgender community in need.
The focus of the Garima Greh Scheme is not only to provide them with a house to live in but this scheme will also empower the community by giving them various benefits. If the parents of transgender are not able to keep their transgender child in their homes, then these can be sent to the Garima Greh Shelters where Concerned authorities will take care of them. In these shelter homes, the government will also provide skill development courses for these people.

Eligibility Criteria Garima Greh
So all those transgenders who are Abandoned and searching for a home can go to these shelters but they should have eligible for these shelters. And eligibility criteria are given below:-
- The age of the transgender should be more than 18 years and below 60 years and Abandoned.
- Transgender should be registered in National Port for Transgender people.
- Transgender should have been living a life of poverty.
- Unemployed transgender is eligible.
- Transgender needs to fill out admission form Annexure 2 and give a personal declaration affidavit for registration for Garima Greh Scheme.
Objective of Garima Greh
So as we all know the situation of the Transgender community is not well after giving them equal rights to the government. The government is taking every possible step but still, the community is fighting for their rights in society.
Garima Greh’s scheme will provide all the basic needs of this community such as food, health services, medical facilities, and also shelters for these people. There are many more steps that are being taken for the welfare of the transgender society.
Social Justice and Empowerment Department has launched this scheme for the first time in Vadodara, Gujarat. And the department is taking more steps for the community. The government is preparing Performa to open government hospitals for transgender where they can take operations services for gender reassignment surgery etc.

With its opening, Garima Greh shelters for different citizens of government has also launched an official portal. On this National, Portal transgender can apply for identity cards online. They can get their identity cards Person without giving physical appearance.
- For applying for Identity Cards and Certificate, Transgender needs to visit the official web portal:- transgender.dosje.gov.in.
- Here on the home page of the website click on the login tab and log in with your user id and password.
- Then on the newly opened page select the option Apply Online for Id Card and Certificate.
- Now enter all the asked details and upload the soft copies of all the documents along with the self-declaration Affidavit’s scanned copy.
- Then you can submit your application.
- You will get an ID card and certificate after the verification by the concerned authority for transgenders.

- Garima Greh is the shelter in Vadodara Gujarat and in other cities of India also to provide a home to transgenders. There are planning to make 12 Garima Greh in India and these will provide every facility to transgenders so that they can also live their life with dignity.
- In these shelters, transgenders will get facilities like Food, clothes, medical facilities, and all daily basic needs.
- In these shelters, the government will provide skill development courses. So that they can also earn for them for better livelihood.
- Government hospitals will also be available in the shelters, so they can easily change their gender by surgery and they could take advice for these types of surgeries.
- With all these facilities they can also take care of physical fitness, they can take education, library facilities, and legal advice for any issue.
- Transgender can also take Recreational Facilities such as they can play indoor games and watching television and all these activities will be done by schools and colleges in the locality.
